Smooth Drum Rollers
These rollers come in a variety of manufacturers in a wide array of sizes and configurations. They can be smooth drum vibratory articulated rollers that are used frequently on large fill areas of dirt or stone, or they can be dual steel drum rollers that are normally found rolling asphalt on the highway following behind the paving machines.
A roller is a compactor type engineering vehicle used to compact soil, gravel, concrete, or asphalt in the construction of roads and foundations. Similar rollers are used also at landfills or in agriculture.
In some parts of the world, road rollers are still known colloquially as steam rollers, regardless of their method of propulsion, even though steam has not been used for propulsion for a VERY long time.
